<lj:music>Christmas in Our Hearts -Jose Mari Chan</lj:music>

Yesterday, I learned how to reformat an HD and set it up using Windows XP. Yeah, kind of a useless skill to learn nowadays, but my aversion for XP makes me rather want to use a typewriter than own a system using that ickle OS...

I spend the whole afternoon and late into the evening at padpad's fixing his system. And after many mistrials and false starts we were finally able to get it up and running again. There are so many nuances and things about XP that really ticks me off and i refuse to believe that all those features are all for the user's "convenience." All this just reinforces my convictions in using older and more reliable OSs instead. Heck, I don't even like XP that much in her OS-tan mode. (Go 98 and 2k-tan! XD)

Oh, and padpad's little sister makes a mean batch of pancakes... ^^

Other Lives And Dimensions And Finally A Love Poem
by Bob Hicok

My left hand will live longer than my right. The rivers
of my palms tell me so.
Never argue with rivers. Never expect your lives to finish
at the same time. I think

praying, I think clapping is how hands mourn. I think
staying up and waiting
for paintings to sigh is science. In another dimension this
is exactly what's happening,

it's what they write grants about: the chromodynamics
of mournful Whistlers,
the audible sorrow and beta decay of Old Battersea Bridge.
I like the idea of different

theres and elsewheres, an Idaho known for bluegrass,
a Bronx where people talk
like violets smell. Perhaps I am somewhere patient, somehow
kind, perhaps in the nook

of a cousin universe I've never defiled or betrayed
anyone. Here I have
two hands and they are vanishing, the hollow of your back
to rest my cheek against,

your voice and little else but my assiduous fear to cherish.
My hands are webbed
like the wind-torn work of a spider, like they squeezed
something in the womb

but couldn't hang on. One of those other worlds
or a life I felt
passing through mine, or the ocean inside my mother's belly
she had to scream out.

Here, when I say I never want to be without you,
somewhere else I am saying
I never want to be without you again. And when I touch you
in each of the places we meet,

in all of the lives we are, it's with hands that are dying
and resurrected.
When I don't touch you it's a mistake in any life,
in each place and forever.

---

Thanks, pre... <lj:music>Still nothing... PC sounds are still dead</lj:music>

I just came back from the province yesterday and went straight to the office after our plane landed at around 6am in the morning. I had an hour to snooze at the office before people started coming in, which wasn't a lot since i think they were still having their own long weekend hangovers.

It's been 3-some years since I last went to my province, Capiz, (approx. 2600 sq. km.; major exports include seafood, capiz shells and aswangs XD) and I'm amazed how much has changed. For one thing we now have a real live mall and real-live commercial food centers like JOLLIBEE! (yes, and this was only a couple of years back)

I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the Internet has finally spread even to our small barangay there. My cousin actually owns a net cafe where I was able to finish the last episode of Veronica Mars (galing ng ending, grabe! ^^). Hehe, kristiann you might be happy to know I was able to convert him into watching the entire first season of VM. <lj:music>NOTHING BECAUSE THE FARKING WORM ATE MY WINDOWS!!! >.<</lj:music>

Having a wonky PC over the long weekend really sucks. Today I've been reduced to drawing, reading various manga and books I have backlogged and generally vegetating inside the house (and apparently updating my LJ... yes, I'm THIS bored!).

I really don't know what triggered it, but one second I was reading my email and the next thing i know my PC reboots and suddenly I don't have a working mouse and sound driver anymore. I was able to save the mouse driver by downloading it off the Microsoft site but I can't seem to get DirectX and the sounds working. Just my luck that my Win 98 CD decided to go wonky on me as well when I tried to just reinstall everything. ~_~

*sigh* I'm so farking bored now... T_T

This should teach me to keep downloading stuff off pr0-- er, anonymous educational sites... XD

---

I watched the Legend of Zorro the other day. I have to agree with [lj user=gravewell], that while it does seem like a campy movie at times the Antonio Banderas-Catherine Zeta Jones banters are to die for when watching the film.

It's rather refreshing to see an action movie which doesn't rely on state-of-the-art special effects and animation to wow the crowd. While the plot isn't something totally gripping or ground breaking, the script just pwns other action flicks I've seen lately.

And since I was able to watch this before my brother, I was totally able to spoil him over the entire movie! MWAHAHAHAHA! (uh, sorry... it's just this thing me and my bro have with movies ^^;)

    <lj:music>One Winged Angel -FF7 OST</lj:music>

I just finished watching Final Fantasy: Advent Children with my lil bro now and all i can say is: DEEEEYMN, IT'S KEWL! XD

No spoilers, but whether or not you're a Final Fantasy fan (more especially if you're one who's played FF7), then you definitely cannot miss watching this movie. Great effects, great fight scenes and it resolves some loose threads at the end of the FF7 continuity, plus it revives all the well loved characters from the game and more.

I'm pretty amused how my bro's raving about it now and how much he regrets not playing FF7 ever. Right now he's barraging me with a plethora of questions about it and I simply told him to break out the old FF7 CDs and just play it and find out everything for himself. XD

Oh, yeah... and Tifa is wuv! <3

***

My brother, Fritz, just came back from Hong Kong earlier as well. I find it nice that he decided to spend his honeymoon with his wife at the opening of Disneyland there. Just proves the point Walt Disney made upon creating the gigantic fantasy theme park that is well-known all around the world: you're never too old to enjoy being a kid all over again. ^^

I find it funny that I always imagined going to Disneyland with my bro. It's been sort of a dream ever since we were kids. I'm slightly miffed that he got to go there without me, but I don't begrudge him anything, especially since he apparently enjoyed the sights there just the same.

He gave me a Mickey Mouse keychain as a souvenir... and I promptly choked him by strangling him with it. (Well, actually I didn't but I kept threatening him that I would if he didn't shut up on how much fun the place was T_T)

***

Oh, and the meme in a pair tree from kristiann:

1. Post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions.
5. Tag 5 people on your friend list

"(this should satisfy my taste for a pseudo-blog right now... :P)"

I found it funny that my 23rd post was my 1st post on LJ and that line came from the 5th and last line of that entry. Just goes to prove how lazy I am when it comes to posting and how much i enjoy being an LJ stalker more. XD

Gamer's Rave and Art in General

I've always been a sucker for TB(turn based)-strategy games. I especially like those which concentrate a great deal on character development and a good depth in the plot. Notable among these types of games is the Super Robot Wars series. I mean, who wouldn't enjoy a giant crossover of several anime all rolled into one game? XD

In line of the theme of the SRW series, here are two games I can't wait to get my grubby little paws on:

Namco x Capcom (PS2)
When I first heard about this game I thought it was going to be another crossover fighting game, but boy was I wrong. I'm actually glad they turned this into a strategy game instead. This is definitely a first for Namco/Capcom where everyone's best loved video game characters can team-up or beat up each other Tactics style. ^^

Super Robot Wars J
Yey, another installment of a great series! Plus, they were able to get Full Metal Panic into the series! However, what shocked me when I was browsing throught their site was this:

Just thinking of Sagara in his Fumoffu mascot suit kicking ebil Gundam butt just sends me into fits of laughter. XD They seemed to stepping it up with the more popular mecha series especially since Gundam SEED is in the game as well. My only disappointment was that they don't seem to have included my favorite Shin Getta Robo in the game. T_T Still, this is definitely something I'm going to be looking forward to when they release it in two weeks time. ^^

Oh, and did I mention I'm going to play these games in their original Japanese import format since the game developers have little or no intention of making English versions of these games? T_T

***

It's been a while since I've concentrated on art in general. I guess it helps having a job (even if it is part-time) that involves using Photoshop for more creative purposes rather than cropping pics to fit a web site. But this is something I wish I had given more attention even back then. I guess it's never too late to pursue things which make you happy and fulfilled just as long as you apply yourself positively towards it. I just pray that this is something that lasts, and even if it doesn't I'm glad it's put me back into the proper perspective.

However, I broke my regular movie-watching habits and watched Pinoy Blonde after my client meeting earlier alone. I can't exactly say why I decided to watch it all by my lonesome. The best I came up with after the movie was it was mostly in honor of the memory of an old friend and all the good times we had together.

Let it not be said I was ever a disloyal and sorry friend.

P.S. I was not disappointed. ^^

***

I went out with my cousins for dinner earlier. I find it funny that when I hung out with them all those years ago, I couldn't relate to a lot of what they were talking about back then (i.e. college, work and scoping out girls). And now after all these years when I finally think I can relate with them, things still seem so distant no matter how old I get (now they talk about marriage, retirement and scoping out girls).

A younger cousin's lot is never easy... ^^;

It didn't really hurt, but the bird was lying on the ground after so i had to shoo it away into some bushes before someone stepped on it or something... ^^;;;

Makes me wonder if my head looks like a nest or something that being the reason why the bird wanted to try landing on it...

...

They're 10k a pop and anyone interested can just leave a comment and their email (if possible) here so I can relay your request to the owner. I'm getting one myself since it's been lonely since our Daschund was kidnapped a month or so ago. Then pick the 5 biggest geeks you know and have them do the meme.

1. I actually got a grade of 100 on my high school report card for Com. Sci. You probably would, too if you had a project on simulating AI as your high school science project. And I've kept true to that calling ever since. I found that most of my work now involves myself somehow being magnetized to a PC for the entire day. To say the least about the number of hours i STILL spend in front of a PC after i get home from work... ^^;

2. I look through my bookshelves and all I see are books mostly about science fiction and fantasy. If it has the word "star", "sword", "wizard" or "tech" in the title then I've probably read it already. I still dream of having the biggest collection of sci-fi/fantasy books to keep myself content for the rest of my days. ^^

3. When online i tend to sp3ak in 1337 and c0nfu5e mos7 people. w00t! zomgwtfbbqplzzzzz!!!111 STFU n00b! kekekekeke-- uh... *ahem* yeah, thus proving me dyslectic rather than geeky... ^^;

4. I only have myself to blame when it comes to spreading this disease called anime to my friends. I still remember hoarding old VHS copies of so many anime titles with this one other friend of mine and spreading the joys of anime when it was still a budding genre here. We even setup a small anime store renting out VHS tapes of the latest anime to other people. And boy that was... that was... a long time ago! ^^;

5.
After almost two months of not joining a tourney, I finally got the guts (and the cash) to join one yesterday. Considering I already placed dead last the last time, I thought to myself I absolutely had nothing else to lose. I played a Phoenix (^_^) honor runner deck originally sponsored by Voltz. Voltee gave me free reign to slightly modified the deck so as to fit my usual playing style for Phoenix - kill, kill, kill! Death, Maho and magical destruction! BWAHAHAHA!

*ahem*

Anyway, in the end I was more than pleased with my overall standing in the tourney. A 7 win, 2 loss record - giving me a first place in the tourney! ^_^ I'll probably write up a tourney report one of these days at the request of Voltz. For now I'm still a grinning idiot considering this is the first time I ever got top spot! :D

However, I would like to thank Voltz first and foremost for lending me the components of his deck. Half the prize does rightfully belong to him, but he said he'd just pick off any of the cards I won if he ever finds a need for them. Hehe, I don't really mind. Like I said, the thrill of victory was more than enough reward for this lowly dog. ^^

I had a fun time playing with John and his buddies this morning at our usual place in Bene. We had a nice 3-on-3 game with a lot of old faces, plus one new player whom they introduced to me earlier. Gawd, how I missed basketball! ^^

I had the slight misfortune of packing the wrong basketball shorts during the game though. I was so sleepy that morning that I forgot that the shorts I brought was stretched out so loosely at the waist that everytime I went up for a rebound the damned thing would slip right down past my butt! ^^;;;

Sometime after the second or third game, I found some rope lying around the court and strung it up into a makeshift belt (Hey, I was desperate!). Asides from sparing me from further embarassment, the "belt" help me pick up my game a lot! ^^

Stats with loose shorts:
Points - 2
Assists - I don't do assists
Rebounds - 999
Blocks - 3
Steals - 1
Injuries - none

Stats without having my shorts fall past my butt:
Points - 10
Assists - I missed a shot and inadvertantly passed it to a team mate who converted it for a basket! ^^;
Rebounds - 999,999 (I never keep count of my rebounds anyway)
Blocks - 6
Steals - 1
Injuries - a sprained thumb and a banged up knee

Let that be a lesson to me from now on... Never wear loose shorts whenever playing basketball!

Oh, yeah! After the game, Ricky decided to treat us out to Gloria Maris since it was his birthday. Man, I've never been so full in my life! There were only 5 of us who ate there for lunch since Dino and Edsel had stuff to do, and we sort of miscalculated the amount of food we ordered. Five meat dishes, four platters of dimsum, 2 large platters of fried rice, 2 huge plates of noodles and a partridge in a pear tree for five people was just too much. ^^; Thank gawd for the miracle of doggie bags. I was so full that I begged my mom not to feed me dinner anymore.

Right now I just feel like icing down my knees and sleeping off all that good food that's still in my stomach. ^_^

In more serious news, I went to my old company again and finally talked to my old boss the other day. He was still the same old stuck-up perfectionist bastard that he was, but then again that was what I always liked about him. ^^

Anyway, he was wheedling me into joining the ranks again as Head of Creatives and Design (again) as I expected, but for some insane and unknown reason I turned him down. Well, not exactly. I told him that I'd be happy to help out with any external projects that they have on hold right now, but as of now I told him that I would much rather open up my options by accessing any other offers the other companies are offering me right now.

Frankly, I was quite surprised he took my response rather well. So well in fact that he even gave me an easy sideline project that should sustain me for a good couple of months with what he's going to be paying me. Why is it that your bosses are NEVER this nice to you when you're working for them directly?

Ah, well. Maybe I'm just enjoying the bum's life again a wee too much. Maybe the one year I spent away from work has made me dread the thought of running myself thru the grindstone again. Maybe I'm just afraid of growing up again and having to face the innumerable responsibilities real life has to offer. Maybe...

been going retro gaming for the past few days... SNES games rock! so far i've finished the Sailor Moon RPG iketani's told me about and now i've proudly bitten him with the SNES bug as well... ^^

i'm currently playing an old game that i've never had the pleasure of finishing... Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2) is a really cool game... it has all the mechanics of a free-form addicting RPG that i thought wasn't possible on the SNES...

on the onset of the game, you choose 3 out of the 6 possible characters playable (1 main, 2 partners)... it plays similarly to the Legend of Mana for the PS, but the plot and the subsequent events all depend on who you chose as your characters... it's a really great game! ^^

even though it's supposed to be the sequel, the story actually takes place a thousand years before Secret of Mana... however all the usual elements are there if you're familiar with the world... i think i'm halfway thru the game already and i already feel like replaying it just to find out how the plot would change if i used a different set of characters... but patience dictates that i finish the current storyline i've chosen... i just love the valkyrie-type main character i've chosen... she's so cute... i'll try to find a decent picture of her so that i can use her as an av... ^^

in other news, i have officially lost all motor skill when it comes to playing physical arcade games... we went to Timezone last night and i couldn't even finish Sunny Day Sunday in Real... crap! @_@ i need more practice, but the damned game costs sooo much! T_T

i hope my luck isn't so bad come this weekend... i'm planning to join in the L5R Season of the Scorpion tourney and i hope i get a better standing compared to my last tourney... *crosses fingers*

I went to La Salle today and got myself dragged with Noel to one of his Jeet Kun Do classes. And I've only one word to describe what i saw there: Kewlness! ^^

I willingly allowed myself to play guinea pig with the sensei/master there. He showed me the different principles for both kicks and punches and i was simply in awe at the stuff he demonstrated. I mean, how in the hell can anyone kick without any sort of momentum and still be able to practically rip the damned kick pad out of your hands? It's simply amazing I tell you! Plus, the principles were pretty fascinating compared to the other martial arts I've learned.

However, I think the most incredible thing he showed me was when he showed me the famous Bruce Lee "Inch-Punch." It's the one where he puts his fist an inch in front of a person's chest and punches out without any sort of momentum. He told me to brace my legs and make sure I was properly balanced and he even asked Noel to stand behind me so that he could catch me, just in case. Wasn't I surprised when his seemingly innocuous punch sent me literally flying backwards by around 3 feet! If it weren't for the fact that there was a chair behind me what broke my fall, I'm sure I would've ended up on my ass after that punch. (Noel was so excited to see the punch that he left his spot behind me and forgot to catch me... the fool! :P)

Man, I really wanna get into Jeet Kun Do now... but I've the enrollment fee is so expensive and I still have a long wish list as of the moment. T_T

I'm also glad that I was able to help Voltz with his little technical PC problem. (Actually it's not so little if you consider the 7 hours we spent overnight at my place just trying to configure is new Windows XP) Hopefully, he will have a smarter and happier PC life now that he has the power of XP on his side. :P

Also, I met up with Ekai, Sam, Noey and Mac. Gawd, did I miss my lil sis Ekai most especially! I feel kinda bad giving her her very belated Valentine's gift only earlier 'cause we don't really see each other that often. But all in all I'm glad to have visited La Salle today.
